WORKSHOPS

Photographing the Oregon Coast With John Wimberley
Photographic Education Group
Beaverton, OR
Email: robert8x10@comcast.net 4
August 28 - 29, 2010
Tuition: $130.00

This exciting workshop in Newport, Oregon, will provide an opportunity to photograph a stun- ning meeting of land and sea with world-renowned photographer John Wimberley, whom The Portland Metro Photographic News recently called "Oregon's Photo Laureate”. "The Oregon coast at Newport is famous for its beauty and for many decades has been a magnet for photog- raphers. Anyone with a camera is welcome, regardless of experience level, age, format, or whether using film or digital.

The workshop opens Saturday morning at 9:00 am, and closes Sunday at 5:00 pm. Students who arrive on Friday will have the opportunity to have an intimate dinner with John at one of Newport’s excellent restaurants. We will meet at The Visual Arts Center, where classroom ses- sions and supportive, productive portfolio reviews will be held. Field trips to special, nearby locations will provide an opportunity for John to provide both group and one-on-one instruc- tion.

It has been said that all photographs are self-portraits, and that their ultimate success depends almost entirely on the photographers relationship with the subject at the moment of exposure. While this workshop is structured to provide a strong foundation in technique, the emphasis will be on inner awareness and exploration of each photographers’ personal relationship with potential subject matter. We will learn effective and proven methods to establish “right- relationship” with whatever we are drawn to photograph, allowing our intuition, emotions, feel- ings, and the essence of our individuality to fully enrich our pictures.

This is a rare chance to spend a fun, fascinating weekend photographing one of America’s most beautiful places with “"one of America's finest living landscape photographers." Bring your camera and be prepared for an enjoyable and enlightening experience.

Student Feedback From Previous Workshops

"John, it is always a pleasure to take one of your workshops. You care about your students and too, that they learn. And you are so graciously willing to share your knowledge. You are very well prepared with excellent written materials, and you have thought about the presentation. I always leave your workshops with new information and having thought about things that I had not before contemplated. And I love your quiet, gentle style and your values. It is just a joy to be a participant in one of your workshops."

"I did a workshop (Sight & Insight) with John last year in Vancouver, Washington, in the Portland area. I was initially concerned it would be too ethereal, spiritual or whatever phrase one wishes to use but he is terrific and down to earth. He's a real "mensch," friendly, gentle, but also deeply thought provoking. He is a master photographer, a wonderful printer and excellent teacher. I'd recommend it."
